Perhaps HBO should be more selective in the material it chooses to adapt.

It seems that HBO can't get enough of the Game of Thrones franchise and is churning out spin-offs at a rate that could rival Disney 's Star Wars.

After the prequel series House of the Dragon was renewed for a second season, it was announced that another prequel, set even further back in time during Aegon I Targaryen's conquest of Westeros, was in the early stages of development.

And now there is official confirmation that yet another prequel is in the works.

Based on George R.R. Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg, the series is called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight and will follow Ser Duncan the Tall and young Aegon V Targaryen 90 years before the events of the GoT series.

Although some fans are pleasantly surprised by the news, pointing out that the classic storytelling and fun characters of the original are perfect for a TV adaptation, others point out a potentially major flaw in the choice of source material.

With only three novellas published, The Hedge Knight (1998), The Sworn Sword (2003) and The Mystery Knight (2010), there is simply not enough material for a full TV series.

Fans don't even see 3 seasons of the story as written, even if the creators manage to stretch it out.

And stretching brings another problem, as in this case it is obvious that the show's creators will have to fill in the gaps with their own additions, which does not always work.

Moreover, Martin has officially stated his intention to continue the book series, so the same problem as with Game of Thrones will arise.

The writers will have to come up with their own continuation of the story, and we all remember how it ended last time.

"There's literally only 3 novellas out. Repeating the same mistake of adapting unfinished work.... And there's literally not enough material for a series anyway. Each book is EASILY a TV movie, NOT a whole season.

Which means they'll probably invent stuff for it. I really wanted to see this as trilogy of TV movies or maybe 1 season with 3 episodes Sherlock style," Reddit user stevenbass said.

A release date for the series has not yet been announced.
