Harry Potter Star Admits the Franchise 'Wasn't Important' for Her
The iconic British actress revealed that the Harry Potter movies "didn't mean as much" to her while reflecting on the franchise's legacy and her experience with it.
While Professor Sprout was far from the most prominent character both in the original Harry Potter books and in the movies, she is still among the core Hogwarts teachers: unlike some of her colleagues, Professor Sprout has been in her position since day one and managed to maintain it at least until the Battle of Hogwarts.
In the movies, Professor Sprout was played by Miriam Margolyes, and while this name most likely doesn't ring too many bells for the American audience, Miriam is quite a famous actress in Great Britain.
In fact, Ms. Margolyes has already been very well-established before joining Harry Potter — again, unlike some of her colleagues.
Recently, Miriam Margolyes was talking to Vogue UK about her career, and, of course, this interview wouldn't have been complete without touching on the Harry Potter movies.
The actress agreed that the franchise meant a lot for the younger generations and shared that it was a fun experience for her… But not that deep.
"It doesn't mean as much to me as it does to [the Harry Potter fans]. For me, Harry Potter wasn't important. I was very glad I got the part and I enjoyed being in it and meeting all the people, but it's not Charles Dickens," shared Miriam.
For an actress of her caliber, Margolyes had to admit, starring in Harry Potter wasn't something unique or sacred (as many fans could've probably thought).
Miriam Margolyes has already found herself before appearing in the franchise, and the role of Professor Sprout didn't turn out either defining or specially favored to her.
Despite that, the actress understands that Harry Potter was a cultural phenomenon and a huge one at that.
But it was the thing for the younger generations, and Margolyes herself wasn't feeling anything deep and magical when starring in the movies, it seems. It was just fun, but nothing more.
For Miriam Margolyes, Harry Potter was not special in the first place, and it didn't become special even several movies later.
But the new Harry Potter series that is currently in the works is bound to feature a plethora of younger actors and actresses who grew up with Harry; for them, starring in the franchise will definitely feel magical in itself.
