The genuine disregard many Potterheads show toward one of the franchise’s best characters is insufferable, and we decided to finally set things straight with you all.

Harry Potter is a vast franchise with a rich world and lore: even if we ignore the Wizarding World expansions that started happening after the success of the original series, the books contained an enormous amount of information and characters. There have been around 700 characters across the seven books!

Thanks to that, Harry Potter character discussions can be rather extensive, but most of the time, they still revolve around primary and secondary characters. And while we’ve grown used to the generic debates about whether Draco Malfoy or Severus Snape was a good person, one topic always bugs us to the point of frustration.

Why do so many Potterheads hate Ron Weasley?

Many fans just resort to the default Ron-hater argument and claim that he was a terrible friend. They recall how he turned his back on Harry in The Goblet of Fire after Harry was announced as a Champion and in The Deathly Hallows when he left the tent and disappeared for weeks during the Horcrux hunt.

But these accusations don’t even hold water!

Sure, Ron turned his back on Harry during the Triwizard Tournament’s first challenge…because he felt betrayed. As soon as he realized how wrong he was, he immediately came back around and did everything to save his friend.

The Horcrux hunt incident is even more ridiculous to quote. As we learned later, Ron wanted to come back five minutes later after he stormed off — but he couldn’t find the tent thanks to the wards. It was literally a “walk away and cool off” gone wrong, and even then, he was seriously affected by the Horcrux’s effects back then.

But let’s see what he was consistently doing for Harry for many years, shall we?

Despite growing up in a poor family, in a cramped house, with all hand-me-down clothes and items, Ron offered himself, his room, food, and family to Harry without a second thought, and kept doing it for all seven years.

Despite being a Pureblood wizard, Ron never took any BS from the Slytherins and stood up for his Muggleborn fellows and Muggles in general, including but not limited to Hermione, and furiously protected both her and Harry.

In the first year, he sacrificed himself for Harry and Hermione during the Chess challenge without knowing whether he’d live. In the third year, he stood before a homicidal criminal all alone and shielded Harry and Hermione with his own body. In every other year, he followed his friends anywhere despite all the grave dangers.

Ron helped Harry and Hermione become part of the Wizarding World, gave them everything they needed, and was always there to take care of them when they were too busy taking care of the rest of the world. Ron was always ready to put himself in danger and even die for his friends, with his friends, or trying to protect them.

Sure, Ron Weasley was by no means the perfect goody-two-shoes, and he had his fair share of insecurities and sins, but don’t we all? In spite of everything, Ron always tried to do the right thing, and the right for Ron always meant being there for his family and his friends, regardless of the circumstances and the consequences.

So don’t you bully this beautiful man and let him eat his bacon sandwiches in peace!

Weasley is our King!
