Harry Potter Fans Were Robbed of a Deleted Scene That Left Felton In Tears
HBO Max dropped a Harry Potter reunion special celebrating the 20th anniversary of Sorcerer's Stone, complete with cast interviews and deleted scenes. One of those scenes left Draco Malfoy's actor in tears.
The special dropped on the first day of 2022, headlined by Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson – the trio who played Harry, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger. Several members of the supporting cast joined in on the fun, including Tom Felton and Jason Isaacs.
Stories flowed about the decade-long franchise, providing fans with some fun new content and trivia. Tom Felton admitted that one deleted scene with his on-screen father – played by Isaacs – almost made him sob.
Isaacs played Lucius Malfoy, the head of the Malfoy clan. Like in most of his roles, Isaacs was pretty intimidating. In one scene that was ultimately cut from an early movie, Lucius whacked Draco's (Felton) hand when he reached for something in a store.
The teeth were a bit sharper than Isaac realized, and it made Felton – 24 years Isaac's junior – well up with tears.
Isaac said on the special that as soon as he hit Felton's hand, the child actor looked up at him. He knew right away he'd made a mistake. Isaac naturally apologized profusely.
The two first worked together in 2002's Chamber of Secrets, the second film of the series. They reportedly worked well together, saying he loved Felton.
Felton began saying positive things about his experience working with Isaacs but then took a moment to think twice. He then said that it wasn't always positive, that Isaacs could quickly turn into "the most unfriendly, horrible person."
Isaacs has always devoted himself deeply to his roles, which is part of what led him to become one of the most iconic supporting actors of the early 2000s – particularly in playing villains. That devotion to the craft, however, sometimes rubbed his younger costar the wrong way.
Felton's Draco was one of the most despised characters in the series. Felton took the opportunity in the special to talk about Draco's motivations.
He pointed to Lucius, saying that with a "psychopath" like him as a father, a kid wouldn't be the "friendliest."
Felton's career was at an all-time high during Harry Potter's run, though he's been working steadily since. He had a 17-episode run with CW's The Flash in 2016-17.
