Harrison Ford Who? Watch Blue Bloods Star Take on Indiana Jones in This Epic Deepfake Video
Don't we just love deepfakes for the glimpse into what is no longer possible?
Indiana Jones could have been completely different if Blue Bloods star Tom Selleck was allowed to work on two projects simultaneously back at the time when he, in fact, was approved to play the iconic treasure hunter.
According to Selleck himself, he got the role of Indiana Jones, but due to him already being busy with CBS' Magnum P.I., he could not accept the offer that Stephen Spielberg and George Lucas had for him. CBS would not allow him to work on two projects simultaneously, so the role ended up going to Harrison Ford — someone who will forever be the perfect Indiana Jones for fans.
However, it's always fun to imagine how it all would go if things took a different turn. Well, there is a deepfake video that actually allows us to catch a glimpse of Selleck as Indiana Jones — and it works out in a really weird way.
After watching the video, someone might have second thoughts about Ford being perfect for the part. However, this someone is not Selleck.
"Harrison Ford hates to hear this. Harrison, this is your role, and you're indelible in it; it's just an interesting story. I signed a deal for Magnum, and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I'm proud that I lived up to my contract," the actor said in 2017 in an interview with the Build Series.
Other fans also believe that it all turned out just the way it was supposed to be.
"Seeing Tom Selleck as Indiana Jones in this deepfake video just reminds us how much Harrison's physicality and movement contributes to his performance," Twitter user jamieswb said.
Harrison Ford's portrayal of Indiana Jones is now iconic, even though Lucas himself said that he was reluctant to cast Ford for the part — not because of some kind of bad blood between the two, rather due to the opposite. Back at the time, Ford had already been in two Lucas' films, and the director said he did not want Ford to become his Robert De Niro.
