Guy Ritchie’s Upcoming Film Breaks a 26-Year Streak With His Favorite Action Star

Movie industry knows a lot of long-lasting tandems between directors and actors. For example, Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro, John Ford and John Wayne or even Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks.

One of such power duos were also Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham. Starting from a 26-year-old Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, they have created 5 movies with Statham in the lead as his go-to action star, with the last being Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre that premiered last year.

But apparently the director has decided that it is time to give someone else a chance, and better make it two. The fans of the director smell a shift in his preferences as Ritchie’s upcoming movie called In the Grey will not feature the actor.

Instead, Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal are taking his place. This comes from the fact that the two of them have become the key cast members of Ritchie’s recent blockbusters. And now they will become a part of the new movie, set to premiere in 2025.

In the Grey figures to be a major blockbuster judging even by the cast alone, so the fact that the used-to-be-the-one actor is not included in the movie is a British action-seeker can only mean he is no longer a staple of the director’s biggest movies.

The new movie will also include Eiza Gonzalez, and this would be the actresses third time working with the director. The whole reuniting thing between the actors and the director seems to be pretty unexpected news, but the fans are taking it with interest.

“The Ritchie/Cavill teamup was not something I would have predicted to happen, but I think it's a net positive for both,” Redditor Snidefarter said.

Like most of Ritchie’s movies, this one will also revolve around crimes and guns, but with a twist. In the Grey is set to premiere in January 2025.
