Coming to screens late 2024.

Summary:

  • Ray Donovan is a Showtime crime drama series that ran from 2013 to 2020.
  • The show followed the titular character who solved the problems of celebrities and other powerful people with the help of often illegal activities.
  • Another show, The Donovans, loosely based on the series, has been greenlit at Paramount Plus with Guy Ritchie attached to direct.

Considering the popularity of various procedurals and crime dramas on major TV networks as well as major streaming platforms, it's safe to say that the genre is not going anywhere. The demand for more investigative puzzles, mind-bending plot twists and interpersonal drama is as high as ever, and Paramount Plus is here to deliver.

The new series, The Donovans, which has just been greenlit at the studio, will not only be loosely based on Showtime's previous hit, Ray Donovan, but will also be directed by action icon Guy Ritchie.

Best known for his work on the big screen and such action hits as The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and The Gentlemen, Ritchie is now fully committed to exploring the possibilities of television.

His name is attached to The Gentlemen, starring Theo James and premiering on Netflix this March, as well as the series Gracie. The Donovans is another title to add to the list.

What The Donovans Is Going to Be About?

Since Ray Donovan's final episode aired in 2020, fans of the show have missed its snarky attitude and innovative approach to solving other people's problems. While Ray Donovan wasn't always right, and certainly wasn't always limited by the rule of law, he was a lot of fun to watch.

The Donovans, due out later this year, will not be a carbon copy of the finished series, but it will certainly bring back the same mischievous vibe.

“With the most powerful clients in Europe, ‘The Donovans’ will see family fortunes and reputations at risk, odd alliances unfold, and betrayal around every corner; and while the family might be London’s most elite fixers today, the nature of their business means there is no guarantee what’s in store tomorrow,” the description reads.

Even though the show will be released very soon, there is no information about the cast yet. Considering the fact that the series will use the family name but will be a standalone, it is hard to guess if Ray Donovan himself, previously portrayed by Liev Schreiber, will return alongside his wife and brothers.

Knowing Ritchie's style, expect a humorous, dynamic style of dialogue and plenty of action to accompany the show's events. If you are interested in checking out The Donovans when it hits Paramount Plus, stay tuned to make sure you do not miss the release date.
