James Gunn managed to create a story full of mystery and secrets, and many fans are still trying to unravel the past of the film's protagonist, who may be one of the most powerful characters represented in the MCU.

The Guardians of the Galaxy franchise has become very popular among Marvel fans, with its quirky characters and offbeat humor.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the series is the backstory of its main character, Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, and fan theory suggests that Quill's mother Meredith was a mutant.

Bear with us now.

It is speculated that Peter was the only child to carry the Celestial gene, and after the Power Stone vision, Star-Lord saw his mother.

It should also be noted that the movie repeatedly stated that the Infinity Stones could only be used by beings of the highest ability, and that if a mere mortal touched them, they would disintegrate within an hour.

This again suggests that not only did Peter get his powers from his father, since his potential siblings were not as strong, but that his mutant mother also provided a defined set of abilities.

This theory gets some support from the first movie, where we see a glimpse of Meredith's medical records, which show that she had an unusually high white blood cell count.

However, many fans disagree with this explanation, believing that the Celestial gene was activated when Peter touched the power stone.

"Maybe Meredith Quill wasn't a mutant. Maybe he was. If Wanda's mutant powers were amplified with the soul stone, Quill's could have been amplified with the Power Stone, and that also woke up his celestial capabilities," one fan says.

Others have rightly noted that it could be true, but mutant genes don't always pass on, and Starlord would probably have a superpower if they did.

Although some fans believe that Star-Lord's siblings met their father at a young age, and that the rest of the Ego's offspring could possibly have done the same — handled the Stone.

However, the Celestial dad was so strict and impatient, so he killed them before they had any success.

Of course, this is just speculation, but MCU filmmakers very often not only make scenes after the credits, but also fill their pictures with all sorts of references that can slightly open the veil of mystery before the release of the new part.

It's especially true for James Gunn, who masterfully highlights the most important aspects of his work with small details.
