As one of the most formidable villains in the MCU, Thanos has proven to be a nearly unstoppable force, capable of taking on even the most powerful heroes in the galaxy.

However, many fans wonder why it took the Titan so long to go after the Stones himself. Some believe he was simply afraid of one entity.

Ego, also known as the Living Planet, first appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as Celestial and Star-Lord's father.

As his name suggests, Ego is a sentient planet with the ability to manipulate matter on a molecular level and create objects out of nothing. He also possesses incredible strength, durability, and the ability to project bursts of energy.

One of the main arguments for Ego's potential ability to defeat Thanos is his power. As a planet-sized entity, Peter Quill's parent is much larger and more powerful than the Titan.

Fans generally agree with this premise, pointing out that Thanos was not eager to go after the Infinity Stones until threats in the form of Odin, Ego, or the Ancient One were eliminated.

Other viewers note that the Titan was barely aware of the Celestial, but the news of Quill's father's death prompted him to begin the journey.

More observant viewers, however, are certain that Thanos was aware of several beings. The Ancient One possessed the Time Stone, and Odin had the Tesseract.

It is hardly a coincidence that the Titan began to act when Asgard collapsed and a less experienced wizard took possession of the Stone that Thanos could handle, allowing the Titan to compete with him.

Of course, many fans agree that Ego was defeated even by a bunch of misfits like the Guardians of the Galaxy, but audiences cannot deny their potential. Without the Infinity Stones, Thanos was merely giving orders, not engaging in combat.

The Celestial could have stood in the Titan's way once he knew of his insidious goals of destroying half the universe. Because Ego's purpose was to create and populate new planets. And Thanos' plans could do great harm to the Star-Lord's father, who was in the process of taking over the galaxy himself.
