Gritty Action Thriller with 'Euphoria' Star Just Hit Netflix's Top 10
An action thriller with the star of Euphoria, where he played a similar character, but with the blood on his hands.
Summary
Whether you watched HBO's Euphoria or not, you've probably heard about the tragic death of its star, aspiring actor Angus Cloud, who played the incredibly sympathetic small-time drug dealer Fezco. His fame was just starting to take off, but in the years following the success of Euphoria's first season, he went on to appear in several feature-length projects, some of which are being released posthumously.
And now, on March 8, Netflix has released one of Angus Cloud's latest works, a simple but gripping action thriller full of cynicism, gore, and moral questioning. Already in its first week of release, the movie broke into the top 10 most watched movies on Netflix in the US, so it's certainly worth a look.
What Is This Angus Cloud Movie About?
The film in question is Your Lucky Day, the feature debut of Daniel Brown. It doesn't boast a big budget, and in this case it works to its advantage: there are no excruciatingly long scenes, no tedious musings (yet, Brown manages to lay down some good ideas about moral dilemmas, the consequences of this or that choice, as well as greed and its proportional karma). Just straightforward action, full of thrills and plot twists that keep you on the edge of your seat for the entire 90 minutes.
The story begins with a Los Angeles corner store customer who is the lucky winner of a $156 million lottery ticket. But instead of walking away with a prize that could change his life, he excitedly trumpets his winnings to everyone in the store. That's when young drug dealer Sterling (Angus Cloud) steps in and decides to steal the ticket. But he is by no means the only one who wants it, and so begins a mayhem with hostages and bloodshed in the store.
The Film Made It into the Top 10 in the USA
As we mentioned, this action thriller was added to the Netflix library on March 8, but it didn't get noticed until a few days later, when it entered the top 10 most-watched movies in the US on March 12. On March 14, Your Lucky Day entered the top five most viewed movies by US subscribers landing at the number five spot, but began to lose momentum a few days later. In general, despite the fact that the ratings for the movie were not the most impressive, it was enough to place it in the sixth place of the most watched movies in the US by Netflix for the week of March 11-17, 2024.
However, there is still strong interest in Your Lucky Day among American viewers, as it has regained some ground and is now back between fifth and sixth place in the US Top 10 for the past few days. In other words, it's a worthy flick, as evidenced by its relatively high ratings.
Is This Movie Worth Checking Out?
This indie film managed to impress both critics and (more cautiously) audiences — the critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes is an impressive 86%, while the audience score is 63%, which is enough to cement the film's 'fresh' status.
A simple premise based on the theme of greed and responsibility, lots of twists and bloody suspense allow the movie to hold the viewer's interest until the very end. Although it features an ensemble cast, it is Angus Cloud who steals all the attention with his presence, making Your Lucky Day not only a pretty good movie, but also a worthy farewell project for the late actor.
