Griselda Blanco's Son Doesn’t Hold Back on Netflix Show
Michael Corleone Blanco fires shots at Netflix’s Griselda: the man claims the series didn’t do his mother justice nearly enough.
Summary:
- Netflix ’s Griselda, the show following the life of the “Cocaine Godmother” Griselda Blanco, became an instant hit after its January 25 release.
- The real-life Griselda’s only surviving son, Michael Corleone Blanco, wasn’t impressed by the way the series tackled his mother’s story.
- Earlier, Michael Corleone filed a lawsuit against Netflix and Latin World Entertainment for using his input without financial compensation.
Griselda has been the most trending show on Netflix since its release on January 25, and for two weeks now, it’s rightfully been the talk of the town. Ruthless, dirty, but strangely charming, the series following the life and deaths of Griselda Blanco, the Cocaine Godmother of Miami, has captivated millions of viewers around the world.
Netflix’s Griselda is largely based on the story of the real Black Widow but had quite a few liberties with it — which, of course, couldn’t have gone unnoticed by her son.
Did Michael Corleone Blanco Hate Netflix’s Griselda?
Out of the real-life Griselda Blanco’s four sons — Dixon, Uber, Osvaldo, and Michael Corleone — only one survived. Dixon, Uber, and Osvaldo were all murdered while Griselda was incarcerated, and today, Michael Corleone Blanco is the only living offspring of the notorious Cocaine Godmother of Miami.
Of course, Griselda’s son had to watch the Netflix series about his mother… But he wasn’t thrilled with what he saw.
“The Blanco family's universe [is] so complex and so legendary it should be shown respect when it comes to storytelling. I think the story deserved a little more. <...> I liked the fact that they tried to humanize the character. That was nice. That's probably it,” Michael Corleone explained on The Real Griselda.
According to Griselda’s son, the Netflix series left a lot to desire in terms of historical accuracy and changed many well-established facts, which was “quite embarrassing.”
Earlier, Michael Corleone Sued Netflix For This Show
The Black Widow’s offspring knew about Netflix’s Griselda long before it was released, and he was furious. According to Michael Corleone, he shared many of his own memoirs and anecdotes about his mother, but the creators of Griselda failed to compensate him for his input and stopped communicating with him afterwards.
“Michael Blanco is humble and thrilled each and every time someone reaches out to shine a light on his mother and the Blanco family. However, in the case of Netflix/Latin World Entertainment, [they] approached Michael Blanco to gain his work, perspective, and insight to only turn around and act like he does not exist, in an apparent attempt to reap their own profits,” the Blanco family statement read.
Michael Corleone Blanco’s lawsuit against Netflix and Latin World Entertainment is still ongoing, and if Griselda’s son wins, he’ll likely get some hefty compensation considering the show’s overwhelming success.
