For the fans of true-life hero stories.

There are so many people in this world whose stories simply need to be told to a wide audience. We are talking about the true heroes of our time. The ones who deserve to be applauded not just by their bosses and co-workers, but by everyone.

It seems only fair to create TV shows and movies about people and events so amazing that they seem like fiction.

One such story was told in 2017 by director Gabriela Cowperthwaite in a biographical film about Megan Leavey. Leavey is a young U.S. Marine corporal who served in Iraq and she was paired with a military dog named Rex. It is a known fact that their team saved many lives back then.

They were first assigned to Fallujah in 2005 and then to Ramadi in 2006. There they were both injured by an improvised explosive device. So the 2017 movie focuses on their work and highlights the importance of being true to your partner.

The titular role is played by Kate Mara and viewers were actually impressed with her work and the way she managed to portray the modern day hero.

“For me, this movie came out of nowhere which, I guess, added to its charm as a hidden gem of a movie. Kate Mara is terrific as Megan, and I really appreciated the brisk pace of the movie. It glossed over a lot of the bootcamp/war movie tropes to get the core story,” Redditor webitube said.

What viewers also mention is the amazing work of Cowperthwaite. They say that it really helped the film that she is a documentarian, and because of that, she brings a low-key naturalistic approach to the storytelling.

The movie Megan Leavey has an 86% Rotten Tomatoes score and will hit Netflix on April 8, so mark your calendars.
