Grey's Anatomy Season 19 Tanked by Fans Who Think the Show is One-Sided
Prep the operating table because Grey's Anatomy is back with its 19th season. It's a record-breaking milestone, and fans are excited to see their favorite characters returning and reprising their roles in the show.
The show has been on the airwaves since 2005 and is still going strong. It's clear that ABC's medical drama just won't say die. Ellen Pompeo returns to her role as the titular Meredith Grey. It showcases heart-pounding suspense, gut-wrenching losses, and enticing characters and their relationships.
However, the latest season may have rubbed some fans the wrong way. Most particularly, episode 3. While dramas and politics have always been intertwined, many fans see Grey's Anatomy's discussion on abortion to be rather one-sided.
Episode 3, titled Let's Talk About Sex, showcases sex education and depictions of abortion that might seem controversial to most people. As we have recently seen with the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022, it's clear that this topic is still something people are sensitive to.
The episode showcases an abortion scene where Bailey openly speaks about women's right to abort a fetus, and the other doctors affirm that right. It shows all of the main characters on one page. The show did not deliberate much over the proceedings, preferring instead to simplify the issue, according to most fans.
Grey's Anatomy' s Never Been Good with Sex Scenes, but Season 19 is the Worst
Critics of the episode called it preachy and stated that such "wokeness" was ruining the show. Moreover, special care must be taken to depict the nuances when presenting such a controversial topic. Unfortunately, however, it wasn't to be found in this episode for many fans.
However, on the other side of the fence, many fans chimed in that the characters were doing what they were supposed to. Throughout the show, the characters go through a lot, so it won't make any sense for them to offer an opposing view. In their minds, the one-sided approach makes much sense from a character standpoint.
To many people of similar views, the episode doesn't deserve all the hate. Because of this episode, many fans got hooked on the season and thoroughly enjoyed it. Other fans praised the writers for taking such a stance in support of women's rights and bodily autonomy.
However, it doesn't matter which side of the fence you're on. It's fine to disagree and have your opinions on things. Everyone is entitled to what they believe, and such discussions should never lead to hatred. Hopefully, Grey's Anatomy will continue to offer thought-provoking debates among the audience for the entire season.
