Grey's Anatomy Did This Character Dirty, But It's Not Too Late to Fix That
No matter how much people love the iconic medical drama, some wounds still hurt.
Let's be honest: Grey's Anatomy blessed us with many amazing moments and storylines, and gave us many favorite comfort characters. Well, it also took some of them away in a really merciless manner...
And sometimes, fans' anger towards the writers is long-lasting. When it comes to a certain Grey's doctor, the fandom is still not over the show completely forgetting about her at some point.
Grey's Anatomy introduced a surgeon named Dr. Virginia Dixon in season 5. She was played by Mary McDonnell, but only appeared in three episodes of the show.
The first time was in the episode These Ties That Bind, where she came to the rescue after the sudden departure of Hahn.
At first it seemed that Dixon was about to become a regular on the show, but then she suddenly disappeared until she returned in episode 14, Beat Your Heart Out.
She has a strong personality and is portrayed as a rule-oriented, dedicated doctor with Asperger's Syndrome.
But the fans noticed that the other doctors didn't care as much about her. Naturally, they felt betrayed and robbed of a decent character.
"It just pissed me off that she was treated so badly. Despite her being a little stereotypical, as an autistic person, I have a special place in my heart for her. I'm not exactly like her but I do tend to talk somewhat like she does and I have the same general "vibe" as Dixon.
She deserved better and I would have liked to see her fleshed out and written a little better. She could have been a great main character imo," Reddit user thesbianism said.
Fans also note that Dr. Dixon had a lot of storytelling potential. But instead the writers just killed off her character. She was gone without any trace and hope of comeback.
But they still are sure that this doctor needed more screen time and hope that she will get what she deserves, even 14 seasons later.
