Grey's Anatomy Already Had McDreamy 2.0 But He Never Got Enough Recognition
The chances of his return are slim, so the only thing left is remembering.
Grey's Anatomy has always been good at creating new types of characters and exploring their reactions to the chaotic life of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
Coming from different backgrounds and dealing with other things in their personal lives, they had to balance that with a stressful work environment and form some unexpected couplings and alliances to stay afloat.
That's what has always made the show so enjoyable to watch, and it's certainly one of the reasons Grey's Anatomy has made it to the 20th-anniversary mark on ABC.
However, some of the characters were so overshadowed by others that they didn't get nearly enough recognition during their run.
Jackson Avery has always been the best in the eyes of some of the fanbase, but he wasn't even half as popular as his counterpart at the time he joined the show.
Back in season 6, when he first appeared on screens, he didn't attract many fans, although he did get a lot of attention for being an overly confident guy with a seemingly huge ego.
He also had a close on-screen relationship with Mark Sloan, a well-known series heartthrob who took him under his wing.
Staying in Sloan's shadow and pursuing his love interest at the time, Lexie Grey, did not make Jackson any more popular.
His kind heart, genuine passion for the craft of plastic surgery, and deep care for the people in his life didn't make much of an impression.
Unfortunately, the character of Jackson Avery only got the recognition he deserved after he left the show. Perhaps his story really shines when you watch it from beginning to end, with all its ups and downs.
The involvement of Jesse Williams, who portrays Jackson on the show, in the 2018 video game hit Detroit: Become Human, also helped shine a light on him. It's always easier to appreciate something later when it's gone.
We'll have to wait and see if there's another character who could fill the McDreamy-type position so effortlessly. As of today, none of the new season 19 interns have been able to complete the task.
But that could change at any moment, so stay tuned for the new episodes of Grey's Anatomy every Thursday on ABC.
