At least she didn’t go through even more torture on screen.

There are a lot of bones Game of Thrones fans have to pick with the way the series ended. Pretty much every major character's death was handled so poorly that the internet was flooded with angry reviews.

The showrunners managed to ruin everything they had carefully built up over the past 7 seasons in the span of one last season, earning them the title of worst ending TV series forever.

Many fans took this as an opportunity to suggest their own alternate endings, and the vast majority of them would make more sense than canon.

However, the fandom's hostility toward one particular character made her on-screen death feel deeper and better than anything the viewers suggested. While you may have wanted a more dramatic exit, let's just agree that Cersei Lannister being buried under the rocks with Jamie was not the worst sighting.

For example, some viewers have suggested that Cersei should have died at the hands of the person who loved her dearly but ultimately rejected her: Jamie. The idea of him killing her after telling her he loves Brienne would be extremely humiliating and demeaning, as it would put her whole complex character into a romance-driven storyline.

Another suggestion, even more violent, but very popular in the fandom at the time, is that Cersei should have been the victim of sexual assault before she was murdered.

Based on pure misogyny, and perhaps for the pleasure of the widely disturbing but popular "walk of shame" scene, this suggestion would have ended up adding yet another female torture scene with no real meaning behind it. Game of Thrones has been scandalous and provocative enough to have no shortage of them.

Though Cersei's finale was still merged with Jaime's, it allowed her to remain an independent character and did her the justice of not falling at the hands of another man, but ultimately becoming a victim of her own choices and miscalculations.

If you want to re-watch Game of Thrones and judge Cersei's death for yourself, you can stream the series on MAX.
