Good Omens Fans Need To Drop That Coffee Theory And Accept The Reality

Ever since the second season of Good Omens hit our screens, the Internet has been abuzz with theories about the finale. Both heartbreaking and romantic, it gives solid proof of the romance between Aziraphale and Crowley, and provides some clues for a possible season 3, should the show be renewed.
Although the series ends with a long-awaited kiss between the angel and the demon, the finale leaves a bittersweet taste in the mouth, as the ending is far from happy.
While Crowley confesses his feelings, Aziraphale decides to give Heaven another chance and leaves with Metatron to become the new Supreme Archangel.
One of the most popular theories is that Aziraphale was influenced not only by Metatron's kind words but also by something he put in his coffee.
Since viewers were introduced to the concept of a supernatural being getting drunk in episode 3, where Crowley drinks laudanum, many believe that Aziraphale may have suffered from something similar. After all, not only was that the decision you would expect him to make, it was not the reaction to the kiss you would expect him to have.
However, some fans feel that this theory should not be taken too seriously, as it takes away a large part of the character's motivation. Aziraphale is known to be easily tempted, just as he's known for his willingness to help those who need it. The mere belief in the possibility of improving Heaven and doing good in this world might have been enough for him to take the job.
Besides, the effect Metatron had on him could've been a great metaphor for the kind of religious manipulation that many people face in real life. Not wanting to offend his god and unwilling to admit his mistakes, Aziraphale would have been forced to accept the offer with or without coffee.
To deny it is to take away the experience of all victims of similar manipulation.
