Good News: General Hospital Is Safe From Strikes, For Now
Let's hope actors and writers will get justice before 2024.
As news of the writers' strike spread across the Internet, everyone was extremely angry at the studios for rejecting the writers' demands for fair pay.
Everyone was also a little scared, remembering the last writers' strike and the effect it had on the industry, with many shows losing their quality and some even getting canceled.
Today, more than a month into the strike, we are all beginning to see how it is affecting our favorite TV shows.
While some networks, like ABC, have been forced to push their scripted drama premieres to midseason, others have been forced to deny second chances to shows with weaker prospects.
For example, rejected by The CW, The Winchesters had to be canceled for good because no one was willing to take the risk.
With the news of another possible strike, this time initiated by the actors, fans were almost ready to say goodbye to even more shows. At least for a while.
Daytime TV, however, seemed to be the least affected. Two former General Hospital stars, Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson, who played Jason Morgan and Damian Spinelli, respectively, discussed the situation on the latest episode of their co-hosted podcast, That's Awesome.
The actors went on to explain that as much as they both appreciate the cause of the strike initiated by SAG-AFTRA, a union for television and theater performers, they would not be joining it.
In fact, the majority of daytime television, including not only soaps but also daytime talk shows, does not expire until 2024. So if daytime TV decides to go on strike, it will only happen then.
The actors admitted that they have their own plans to fill this time without work. However, there's still a good chance that they'll be able to bring them to life.
Since many actors and networks don't seem to know about separate contracts, it's up to the studios to confirm or deny the information and make a final decision.
Depending on this decision, many soaps in general, and General Hospital in particular, would either stop airing for a period of time, or continue filming as before. Stay tuned to not miss any important updates!
