Gibbs Look Problem in NCIS: Origins Still Needs to Be Fixed, and I Know How
Mike Franks is perfect, but Gibbs has something else to work on.
NCIS: Origins is getting a much better look now that there are only a couple of months left until its premiere, but the biggest problem regarding Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ portrayal by Austin Stowell still has me worried. And I guess the show’s creators might want to follow another lead actor’s suit to resolve the issue.
Putting its focus on Gibbs’ career start at NCIS back in the 1990s, NCIS: Origins will dive deeper into the beloved character’s personal drama and background story. But most importantly, it will address his relationship with Mike Franks, showing the characters going from being colleagues to becoming closest friends.
Now that fans got (relatively) happy about Gibbs’ changed look in the upcoming spinoff, another big update from the production set made them reconsider their changed opinion since it proved that Gibbs could do so much better.
NCIS: Origins’ production details keep emerging thanks to the series’ cast member Mariel Molino who recently shared a picture of her and her co-stars having some fun in between the takes.
The photo also featured Kyle Schmid, who in the show portrays young Mike Franks, Gibbs’ mentor and later on good friend that actually helped the latter kick his career off afresh at NCIS.
Since their relationships are very likely to become the core of the entire spinoff, Franks and Gibbs’ accurate portrayal is the key to NCIS: Origins’ success, and for now it seems like Kyle Schmid understood the assignment perfectly. As many fans pointed out after analyzing Schmid’s appearance as Franks, the actor looks just like his predecessor, the character’s original actor Muse Watson.
However, such an upgrade suddenly played out badly for Austin Stowell as many claimed that the actor and his team still had to work hard on Gibbs’ look, even though they did fix that major problem with the character’s wrong haircut.
Still, there’s enough time for Austin Stowell to make everything in the best way possible and, however weird it would sound, Mark Harmon will be pretty much needed in this case.
Though Harmon left the franchise long ago, I don’t think he would reject NCIS: Origins’ team in case they reach out to him asking for help. As the one who has played Gibbs for decades, Mark Harmon is surely the best advisor when it comes to defining Gibbs’ clothing style and overall vibe, including his habits or even a manner of speaking.
Since Kyle Schmid already confirmed that Muse Watson was a great help for the actor’s preparations for the role, Austin Stowell might borrow his co-star’s idea and eventually invite Mark Harmon to consult him about a right way to portray Gibbs without ruining his image established by the original show.
NCIS: Origins will premiere on CBS later this year.
