George Martin About His Meetings With Publishers: 'There Will Be a Big Announcement'
GRRM has been actively meeting with his publishers lately: does this spell any The Winds of Winter news?
George Martin ’s fans are understandably desperate and have been like this for the past decade. The first three years were lowkey understandable, but then it became increasingly clear that GRRM was stalling on The Winds of Winter. Since then, 13 years have passed, and fans’ frustration and anticipation is so strong it’s palpable.
Any update from Martin is speculated about as if it was a TWoW update — so the author decided to address the latest rumors about his meetings with publishers.
GRRM Addressed Publisher Meeting Speculations
When a famous writer is flying around the world meeting the folks that publish his books, it’s only fair to assume he wants something done about his book. Published, likely. But according to George Martin, it’s not his case (because why would it be?): he’s merely indulging in serial networking since he doesn’t meet those people often.
“The internet went nuts, throwing up all sorts of theories about how this meant that The Winds of Winter was done and a huge announcement was at hand. Uhhhh… Sorry, guys, but no. That’s not how it works. Making contacts which often turn into friendships is a huge part of publishing. So when I travel, if I have a day or two to catch up with one of my editors or agents, I jump on it,” the author explained in his recent Not a Blog post.
GRRM Promised a Big Announcement When He’s Done
To try and prevent further speculations like these, which would once again attract everyone’s attention to the fact that he’s not been writing the book for over a decade, George Martin pinky-promised that once he’s done with The Winds of Winter, he won’t hide it. He’ll make a big, official, and properly dramatic announcement of it.
“Calm down, please. When The Winds of Winter is done, the word will not trickle out, there WILL be a big announcement… Where and when, I cannot say,” Martin added.
Seeing how this is the latest update, we can’t help but highlight that previously, George Martin did specify the release window for The Winds of Winter. According to him, the book should be released between Seasons 1 and 2 of The Hedge Knight.
