Maybe then we’ll finally get more than 30 seconds per character in one episode.

General Hospital, which has been on the air for more than 60 years, has one definite advantage that many other TV shows simply don't have: it can juggle its characters in any number of ways. Being a soap opera and having the ability to easily kill people off, bring them back from the dead, create mysterious twins, and make previously non-existent family connections just adds to the fun.

However, the more the series progresses, the more fans begin to notice how it hoards characters instead of letting them go. One could argue that the problem is more evident than ever because of the anniversary, which the showrunners are celebrating by bringing back some old characters. But the problems started long before that.

So long ago, in fact, that today fans know exactly which characters they want to see gone from General Hospital in order to give others at least a little more well-deserved screen time.

One of the characters that needed to go a long time ago is Gladys, and there's no better time than now when she's finally being held accountable for everything she did to Sasha.

This woman deserves to pay for her crimes, and locking her up for at least a few years would be the perfect solution that would make both the characters on the show and the fans on the other side of the screen very happy.

Speaking of Gladys, another legacy character that needs to leave is Sonny Corinthos, who played a huge role in her downfall. A true heartthrob of the show and still an incredible actor, Maurice Benard has spent 30 years on the General Hospital set, but now his character's storyline has become boring and stale.

Carly Corinthos, portrayed by Laura Wright, is another one that fans wouldn't necessarily miss too much.

“#GH Without Carly would be 1,000 times better. I said what I said,” X (formerly known as Twitter) user @marshabess1 said.

Thanks to the specifics of the genre, General Hospital doesn’t have to write these characters off for good. In fact, the show’s creators can definitely think of a scenario that will make them leave Port Charles temporarily, however, because the audience could definitely use a break.

After all, loving someone is always way easier from a distance.
