General Hospital’s Michael Easton Opens up About His Exit: ‘It Was Humbling’
Maybe they could bring him as another character.
While there are many ways for soap operas to ensure constant rotation within the cast, many actors choose to stay in their roles for years. And that makes it that much harder to say goodbye when the time comes.
Even though General Hospital 's cast has been way too big for years, and the writers don't have enough screen time to include all the characters, it's still a little upsetting to see someone go. No matter how little viewers cared about his character, Michael Easton's departure brought tears to many fans' eyes.
Why Did Michael Easton Leave General Hospital?
General Hospital fans learned of Easton's departure from the show through his social media, as the actor posted a farewell video with many kind words about the soap. While it was heartwarming to see how involved and dedicated he was to the show, viewers couldn't hide their excitement.
No matter how good an actor Michael Easton is, the writing for his character Hamilton Finn has not been up to the standards of the viewers for a long time now, and his relationship with Elizabeth Webber made one of the most boring couples that severely lacked chemistry. The soap's executives must have noticed this as well, because Finn was deliberately written off.
The raging addiction issues that ended Finn's storyline were heartbreaking to watch and even harder to portray, especially knowing that it led to the character's demise. Speaking to Soap Opera Digest, the actor revealed how he handled the final days of filming on General Hospital.
“You get hurt a little bit and you get wounded a little bit, and part of your head’s going, ‘Well, just do it [i.e., do the work without putting much effort into it]’ — and then I ended up investing more [in my performance], to make it even better for them. <...> So it was raw for me, and it was humbling, but it also felt good. I felt like I left everything out there,” Easton said.
Given how well the actor was able to portray all facets of Finn's desperation in his addiction, there is no question that fans would want to see his talent back on the show. His character, on the other hand? Not so much.
