General Hospital’s Laura Wright Compares This HBO Hit To a Great Soap
And we can kinda see the similarities.
One of the greatest compliments you can get from a soap opera actor or a member of the soap opera production team is to be compared to the iconic soap.
As the loudest cheerleaders of their own genre, which takes drama, comedy, crime and romance and mixes it until it is perfectly balanced, they can truly appreciate true emotion.
Laura Wright, who has portrayed General Hospital 's Carly Corinthos for many years since 2005, must be a master at finding truly great pieces that make the viewer feel every possible emotion at once. And when the show does the same for her, it has to be a great production.
The actress shared a track that made her such an emotional wreck while talking to Richard Eldredge. It turns out that Wright, like the rest of us, got very caught up in the family drama of the Targaryen dynasty while watching the first season of the Game of Thrones spinoff.
“I grew up watching soaps and there were times when I screamed and yelled and threw things at the TV but that was the fun of it. That passion, that excitement, that anger. I still get that way when I watch House of The Dragon and all of my other shows. I love it,” Wright said.
It's easy to see the similarities between the usual soap opera setup and House of the Dragon. The story of a dysfunctional family with many very scandalous relationships and political intrigues going on in the background would make a great daily soap. Besides, fans would jump at the chance to see more of their favorite characters on screen.
As unfortunate as it is, there is no chance that a production like House of The Dragon could exist under the circumstances forced upon your favorite soap dramas.
With little to no location shooting and no use of CGI, the Targaryens would have to say goodbye to their castles and their dragons, so the show wouldn't be the same at all.
House of The Dragon season 2 is scheduled to premiere in 2024. Until then, you can watch the first season on MAX. And if that seems like too long to wait, tune in to General Hospital on ABC Monday through Friday to see what else Port Charles has in store for Laura Wright's Carly Corinthos.
