Do we really need to waste any screen time on her?

Summary:

  • Among the many complaints General Hospital receives from fans, the one about the bloated cast is perhaps the most common.
  • With so many characters still technically on the show, attention is often taken away from the characters fans want to see and given to others.
  • Heather Webber, played by Alley Mills, is one of those characters whose storyline doesn't make much sense anymore.

One of the things that infuriates General Hospital viewers the most is how little time their favorites seem to get on the show if they are anyone other than Carly, Sonny, Nina, Drew, or now, added to this list at the very top, the resurrected Jason Morgan.

Everybody else barely gets an appearance twice a week, and people aren't sure if it's even worth watching the soap at this point outside of those glimpses. Of course, that depends on the writers, but it also depends on the production's decision to keep so many actors in the cast even though they don't have a single substantial storyline going at the moment.

Of course, in order for Port Charles to be at least somewhat realistic, General Hospital has to have an ensemble cast. But many fans believe that in order to give the existing characters well-thought-out arcs, the show desperately needs to double their number, at least for a while.

Is Alley Mills Leaving General Hospital?

While every single person in the fandom is ready to give Alley Mills a standing ovation for her portrayal of Heather Webber, there is no obvious reason for her to continue on the show, especially since General Hospital seems to be wrapping up her villainous storyline and beginning her redemption arc.

Now that her daughter Esme is also gone, Heather's residence in Port Charles seems unnecessary. While it's nice to have an explanation for her behavior, it's not that realistic that metallosis would cause people to become murderers in real life.

The only realistic reason why General Hospital would want to give Heather a full redemption arc is if they wanted to bring her back as a recurring character. And that would have been pointless without her daughter there to witness it.

Technically, this could all have been nothing more than a clever ploy to bring Esme back from the dead. Of course, this move would have been too "on the nose" after Jason's return, but maybe she wanted to fight for her son and settle down as a "goodie", even with all her memories back.

After all, the whole idea of being conceived by two murderers would have been wrong at that point. Since Heather is nothing but a victim of the metal poisoning she's been experiencing for years, she might have reconsidered her own choices in life. However, this would only play a bigger role in the expansion of the cast.

If you are interested to see where Heather's health crisis will lead the plot, go ahead and tune in to General Hospital Monday through Friday on ABC.
