General Hospital's Portia Is the Only Voice of Sanity Left in All of Port Charles
And somehow everyone ignores it.
One thing you should know about every soap, but most definitely about General Hospital in particular, is that there is not a single good character left. Every single one of them had their questionable moments, ranking from giving the audience a minor ick about something to actual crimes. And that is exactly what makes it so good.
There is no need to search for the beacon of morality, when it comes to Port Charles, as there is barely any left. However, while some characters are acting rational, at the very least, others end up being criminals’ apologists. And that is where the audience needs to draw the line.
Why Did Portia Fight With Laura on General Hospital?
In one of the least expected and least popular twists of 2024, General Hospital's new writers decided to give Heather Webber a second chance at life and redeem her character.
The supervillain, who spent years on the show teetering on the edge of psychosis, assaulting and (sometimes successfully) attempting to murder several people, ended up being a victim of toxins from her hip replacement.
While it may sound absolutely wild, this side effect of what seems like a very common surgery is actually a real thing. But that doesn't make it any more excusable to ruin a perfectly creepy villain and start the redemption arc that no one wanted to see. Port Charles was already lacking in really scary villains, and without Heather, it just got more boring.
To make matters worse, the writers are now determined to set Heather free and let her go without any real consequences. They are implementing this idea through Laura Spencer, and the only person opposing her so far is Portia Robinson, who somehow ends up being a bad guy in this argument.
If you think about it, it's not hard to see where Portia is coming from. Heather's hip replacement may have been a trigger that pushed her closer to the edge, but there may still be a lot of darkness in her. And that darkness could easily be directed at Trina, since Heather already wanted to kill her for Esme.
Not only is Portia the only voice of reason in this situation, she's also doing what any good mother would do in her place, standing up for her child. If not believing a longtime criminal who might be after Trina makes Portia a villain, then add us all to that list, because the fandom clearly doesn't buy Laura's reasoning either.
If you want to see where the show takes both Portia and Laura in their confrontation, and if Heather gets her freedom back, be sure to tune in to General Hospital Monday through Friday on ABC.
