No one will adore these iconic characters less if they will start acting human again.

General Hospital will always hold a special place in the hearts of its loyal fans, not only because it is the longest, but also because it is one of the few soaps left on American television.

However, that does not mean that nostalgia is the only way to keep the show afloat.

Many believe that this willingness to sacrifice the plot in order to make some characters untouchable is actually the reason behind the ending or General Hospital itself.

Of course, the beauty of the story that has been on the air for over 60 years is that it brings together viewers of different generations.

It's not often that you can name a character that the grandmother will adore as much as the mother and the granddaughter.

Years pass, seasons change, and characters are recast, but the essence remains the same.

And one would say that Sonny Corinthos and Carly Corinthos are the only two who still hold that power over the majority of the old-time audience.

Despite the growing number of complaints about their characters from the newer fans, the older ones continue to worship them whenever they return to the screen, making them even more untouchable in the eyes of the writers and directors.

No one is asking them to leave the screen forever, just to acknowledge their human imperfection.

Anyone can struggle. Everyone can make a stupid decision now and then, and everyone can get into trouble, no matter how much power they have.

Yet everyone in the writers' room seems to walk on eggshells around these characters, afraid to add an ounce of emotion or opinion that might upset the audience.

With such efforts to save an older audience, the showrunners are moving further and further away from the newer ones every day.

When, in fact, it would be wiser to focus on them, as well as on attracting an entirely different, newfound fan base.

If you're interested in seeing what these days hold for Sonny and Carly, you can tune in to General Hospital on ABC Monday through Friday.
