Fans are already excited to see what's coming.

We can all agree that General Hospital 's 60-year run is more than impressive, even for a soap opera.

It's rare to see a show celebrate such an anniversary, and it's fair to expect something extraordinary as a gift to all the fans and loyal viewers who have been there for years.

From the most unexpected plot twists to the day-time vet's comebacks, from the grand Nurses Ball to the crossovers. General Hospital promised all that and more but failed to deliver.

With not many comebacks of the veteran actors and ordinary, boring storylines that ultimately lead the characters nowhere, viewers feel both disappointed in the production team and trapped with the shadow of the show that General Hospital once was.

However, amidst the general tedium of the show's current run, there are a few positives: some exciting plans have come to fruition as promised.

And boy, are the fans ready for them to bring a breath of fresh air to the episodes.

One of the surprises that has already been confirmed by Soap Opera Digest is the appearance of Walt Willey, who will be joining the General Hospital production later this year to appear in the July episodes.

The actor will appear as Jackson Montgomery, a role he reprised from 1987 to 2011 on another ABC daytime soap, All My Children.

This isn't Willey's first crossover rodeo. Back in 1996, he appeared as Jackson on another ABC series, The City. Although it did not save the soap from cancellation the following year, it was a nice nod to viewers.

It was not the crossover that everyone expected, but it was certainly the one that got fans excited to watch General Hospital all over again.

Intrigued by what Jackson will bring to Port Charles and how his arc will affect other characters, fans can't wait for July.

If you don't want to miss any of the action leading up to Montgomery's appearance, be sure to tune in to General Hospital Monday through Friday on ABC.
