No one is actually surprised.

When a show lasts as long as General Hospital, it's not uncommon to shake things up. From getting rid of characters that have been on the show too long and don't have the same appeal to viewers, to shining a light on someone who has been in the shadows. But not all the changes are positive.

Molly Lansing-Davis has never been a central character in a major General Hospital storyline, but she was a perfect character to pull out in a pinch and create something new for her. That is exactly what the writers seem to be doing with a new storyline in which Molly and TJ have a baby together and choose a controversial surrogate.

Although it brings a breath of fresh air to the relationship between Molly and her sister Kristina, it also fails to excite the fans of the show one bit. Partly because of the general displeasure with Brooke Anne Smith, an actress who was cast to portray Molly after Haley Pullos' abrupt departure due to DUI charges.

No matter how well Smith portrays Molly, the traits the writers have brought to her character in the recast are hardly in keeping with the Molly fans once loved and knew. This is causing outrage within the fandom, which is not allowing them to show any appreciation for the newer storylines.

The ongoing feud between Molly and her sister Kristina is the last straw for those who were willing to give the new Molly a chance.

Once quite sweet but assertive, she has become obnoxious, pretending to be her sister's victim when in fact she is being manipulative. Longtime fans are horrified to watch this drama unfold, as it completely ruins what remains of her character.

Not only that but Molly's decision to become a mother seems very forced to most viewers. For a character who never expressed any interest in motherhood, her willingness to relentlessly fight her own sister over it is excessive and hardly believable.

While some General Hospital fans are hoping for a better explanation of this drama in the future, others are ready to move on. To see where the surrogacy storyline takes Molly and TJ, be sure to tune in to the upcoming episodes of General Hospital Monday through Friday on ABC.
