Some decisions are harder than others, but fans would do anything to save the show.

When you're somehow invested in a media piece that's been around for 60 years and has become as important to daytime television as General Hospital has, you're going to be willing to do anything to see it thrive.

While fans aren't as powerful as the writers and can't directly influence major decisions of the soap, they can try to push their agenda through the power of the Internet.

However, no one can ever guarantee success in such cases. With the show dragging out the most boring storylines, it doesn't feel like anyone has been listening to the viewers for the past few years.

Still, there is hope for change. Especially when fans think they have found the key to all the show's current problems: there are too many cast members, and it's time to say goodbye.

Although this sounds like a very drastic change and a very dramatic solution, it could actually do wonders not only for the storyline but also for the show's production.

Imagine how much faster the show could move if there weren't half as many characters to focus on. Instead of following ten stories at once, viewers could do with 5 well-written and thought-out stories.

General Hospital's budget would probably benefit as well. Especially if the show decides to let go of some of the heavy hitters like Drew, Austin, Finn, Portia, Dex, Willow, Cody, and Chase.

It would be too much to ask for to get rid of Carly and Sonny too, but some viewers are willing to go there and state that the show has outgrown them and needs more fresh characters to take their places.

Of course, there's still a lot of favoritism involved in the discussion of who needs to go and who needs to stay, but in general, fans believe the cast could be cut by 25% to 40%.

While some call this wishful thinking, others see it as almost the only possible solution to General Hospital's current stagnation.

Whatever your position on the matter, you can see how the story unfolds by tuning in to General Hospital on ABC Monday through Friday.
