Viewers count the days until new writers arrive.

Summary:

  • General Hospital is an ABC soap opera that has been on the air since 1963.
  • The show has been heavily criticized for favoring the character of Carly Corinthos and for inconsistent writing for her character.
  • Fans are hoping that a change in head writers in March will bring more balance to the show.

No General Hospital fan would deny that they have high hopes for the upcoming takeover by new head writers Elizabeth Korte and Patrick Mulcahey. With the change of seasons, all viewers are patiently waiting for big changes in Port Charles as well, and the pressure is on.

There is no way that a week or even a month's worth of new soap episodes can change something that has been slowly destroyed for several years. However, seeing the smallest shifts in the way the characters act and make their decisions would be a huge step forward in the eyes of General Hospital viewers.

One of the biggest wishes fans have is for their favorite show to become more balanced in terms of storylines and screen time.

In particular, Carly Corinthos is one of the characters who needs to change the most and, preferably for a good half of the fandom, take an extended vacation away from Port Charles and its drama.

Carly Corinthos, played by Laura Wright since 2005, first appeared on the show in 1996. Throughout the decades on television, the character has changed and grown, and then taken quite a few unexpected turns with all the schemes she's been involved in.

Generally speaking, there probably isn't a single Port Charles resident who manages to keep their hands clean of any evil. Carly, however, may be the character who has managed to come out of the most situations with a spotless reputation.

While some fans are simply tired of the writers finding more and more ways to exonerate her, others are beginning to ironically embrace her unofficial Queen of Port Charles status. By leaving Crimson Magazine with a moralistic speech to Drew for all the wrong reasons, Carly only gave more reasons to believe that she has completely lost it.

Even though the majority of viewers suspected that Carly wouldn't be staying at Crimson for long, they never thought that the reason for her leaving the magazine would have anything to do with Drew's vendetta against Nina. First of all, it was his hatred for Nina that got her that position in the first place, and secondly, she was just horribly underqualified to stay.

However, in the magical world of General Hospital, Carly can do no wrong, so her decision was explained by her holding a high moral ground. While it would have been nice to see her stick with that nice persona for a while, we all know what's coming next. Carly is going to get into another mess, only to get out of it without any real consequences.

If you can't wait to see what changes new head writers Elizabeth Korte and Patrick Mulcahey will bring to General Hospital in March, be sure to tune in to new episodes Monday through Friday on ABC.
