Gen V Season Finale's Biggest Cameos Shed Light On The Boys’ Future

The first season of the Gen V spin-off series has officially come to an end, and it was a rather spectacular conclusion that left a lot of intriguing set ups that shed light on both the already confirmed second season of the show, as well as the main series, The Boys.

Gen V already surprised fans by how creatively it included a cameo from Soldier Boy, played once again by Jensen Ackles, in episode 6, but it wasn't really significant to the overall narrative.

Much more important are the cameo appearances in the season finale, both of which could set the course for the entire franchise.

The Strongest Supe Returns

First of all, ever since the on-set photos of Gen V were leaked, fans have been expecting one of the best characters from The Boys, Homelander, played by Antony Starr, to join the story of the spinoff.

However, it took some time, as the most formidable supe didn't enter the scene until the finale of the episode, when he was summoned by Ashley Barrett in her desperate attempt to save herself from being torn apart by a bunch of angry superhuman test subjects.

After Cate and Sam unleashed everyone trapped in the Woods facility to wreak havoc on the university staff, it didn't sit well with their friends, leaving Marie and the rest to attempt to put an end to the massacre.

It all led to an intense confrontation in which Marie not only used the blood daggers for the first time since accidentally killing her parents as a child, but also discovered new abilities.

We've already seen Victoria Neuman, who turned out to have the exact same blood-bending powers, explode people's heads and limbs, so it wasn't really a surprise when Marie unintentionally obliterated Cate's arm in the same way.

But when Homelander finally arrived, he didn't even try to stop the riot, instead accusing Marie of going against her own kind and immediately blasting her away with his heat vision, which she barely survived.

This resulted in our group of protagonists being locked up in some facility and blamed for all the chaos, while Cate and Sam were hailed as the real heroes.

What Comes Next

Such an unexpected turn of events not only completely turns the tables on Marie and others, who are now labeled as villains, but also proves that Homelaner has only doubled down on his delusions and dreams of supremacy.

Now it is absolutely clear that he is more than eager to strike down anyone who dares to go against "his kind," even if it is another superhuman, sort of like Magneto from X-Men.

But a much more intriguing cameo happens during the mid-credits scene when we see none other than Billy Butcher, played by Karl Urban, exploring the Woods facility.

This could be a direct hint that he is now aware of the anti-supe virus that was developed and tested there, and may use it to put an end to all superhumans on the planet, just as he intended to do in the original comics.

However, he seems disgusted by the experiments, saying only, "What a bunch of c***s," possibly suggesting that the TV show's version of the character isn't too fond of experiments on innocent students.

However, if the situation continues to become more dire in the main series, Billy may eventually change his mind and reevaluate his view on using such a permanent solution to his biggest problem.

No release date has been announced for Gen V season 2.
