From Titanic to Interstellar: Reddit Hates These 7 Frustrating Movie Endings
How the finale can spoil the whole movie impression.
Sometimes even well-made films can have disappointingly controversial endings, which make no sense even on a rewatch, leaving viewers slightly (or more) frustrated.
Here are seven movies which have some evident troubles with their endings – at least according to cinephiles on Reddit.
1. Titanic ( 1997)
Apart from the romantic, but unreasonable door scene, the iconic movie’s finale spoils the whole impression of its main heroine, who had hidden her priceless necklace, which was passionately looked for by the crew of researchers, and was silent about it.
2. The Shining (1980)
The scene following Jack Torrance’s pursuit of his son features a photograph in the hotel hallway, with Jack pictured standing amidst a crowd of party revelers from July 4, 1921, long before the events of the film, which is quite bizarre and completely unexplained.
3. Last Night in Soho (2021)
The final twist revealing the villain, which was near the main heroine all the time, seemed extremely illogical.
“It's like a hat on a hat. She's mentally unstable…<...> but also she sees REAL ghosts and REAL historic events,” fairly admitted the Redditor @Dosefes.
4. It (1990)
The line of a predatory monster that can transform into its victims' worst fears to kill them finishes with it coming from a giant spider that needs to be killed with a silver bullet. It’s a shame such a suspenseful horror had to end with a textbook example of lazy writing.
5. Interstellar ( 2014)
Although this sci-fi flick leans on science as much as possible, in the end it falls down to some kind of a dramatical fantasy, where a five-dimensional construct inside the black hole is shown in the form of a bookshelf, which breaks the scientific tone of the movie.
6. Pretty in Pink (1986)
The final love choice of Andie, the main heroine, is shocking and unreasonable because she follows the advice of her big admirer and chooses another boy.
“And why should she choose between immature and weak,” the user @pbrooks19 asked the fair question.
7. Mother! (2017)
During the wild finale, after the brutal treatment caused by the guests, Mother sets fire to the house and kills them all except her husband. She is then reborn in the new house, which messes up the whole chaotic final act and doesn’t give any answers to viewers.
