Forgotten Indiana Jones TV Series Actually Won 6 Emmys Back at The Time
With news of a Disney Plus TV series in the works, it is time to remember Indiana's original television debut.
Indiana Jones is undoubtedly one of the most iconic and instantly recognizable characters in movie history.
Since his debut in 1981's Raiders of the Lost Ark, Harrison Ford has played the legendary archaeologist for more than 40 years.
And with the fifth installment of the franchise, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, coming soon, the 80-year-old actor has officially announced that it will be the last time he dons the iconic hat.
This means that he will not be appearing in the TV series currently in development for the Disney Plus streaming service.
But did you know that it won't be the first time Indy appears on television?
The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles aired on ABC and ran for two seasons from 1992 to 1993.
As the title suggests, the story depicted the early years of the famous archaeologist, with young Indie getting into all sorts of adventures around the world.
It was created by George Lucas, the father of the whole franchise, and even featured a cameo by Harrison Ford himself in one of the episodes.
Some other big Hollywood names were involved in different episodes, such as Frank Darabont, Carrie Fisher, Terry Jones and others.
The series was well received at the time, winning six Emmy Awards, but also garnered some criticism. It was later continued with four TV movies that aired from 1994 to 1996.
It is still unclear whether the new TV series will be a remake of the young Indiana's adventures or something completely different, but according to various sources it might follow the story of Abner Ravenwood, Marion Ravenwood's father.
No further details or release date have been announced.
Still, fans point out that continuing the franchise without Ford's involvement feels rather pointless. They are surprised that the actor agreed to do one last ride, considering his age, and hope that the final installment of his adventures will not disappoint.
However, the fact that James Mangold, the film's director, has already done a similar job flawlessly gives them some hope.
Back in 2017, he directed Logan, which ended up being a perfect, albeit heartbreaking, conclusion to Wolverine's story, so he seems to be the right man for the job.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will be released on June 30, 2023. In addition to Harrison Ford, the film will also star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen and Antonio Banderas.
