This heartfelt moment would make a perfect ending to the show.

There is only one reason why The Office has become as popular as it is: it really is that good.

The comedy of it, mixed with genuine relationships with characters that are relatable (sometimes in the silliest ways), makes it resonate with every viewer and keeps them tuning in for more with each and every episode.

It's not surprising that no one really wanted to see the show end, but if fans could choose the perfect ending for it, they wouldn't choose the same one the writers did.

The Office ended with the episode titled Finale, which marked the end of the 9th season.

The ending did justice to the staple that The Office has become over the years, but many viewers still weren't over the episode they got a few years earlier.

In the episode Goodbye, Michael, considered the best of the series by both fans and critics, we see Michael Scott leave the office to pursue a happy life with his fiancée.

Although heartbreaking, Steve Carell's performance in this final scene, as he takes off the microphone and says his final goodbye, was so good that it was recognized by the Primetime Emmy Awards.

To make things even more sentimental, the actress who portrays Pam, Jenna Fischer, revealed that in the scene she told her co-star how much she would miss working with him, so all the tears and emotion in their hug were real.

The audience agrees not only on the acting and writing quality but also on the fact that this episode could easily be the end of the show.

With the criticism that the following season received, it would have been a wise decision to end things there, as no one really imagined how The Office could stay the same without Michael Scott.

If you're in the mood for The Office marathon, you can re-watch all 9 seasons on Peacock or buy them online at Amazon or Apple TV.
