Florida Man: Is Netflix Getting Better?
Netflix is a dubious phenomenon. One either likes it and what it does, or hates it altogether.
While some might say that this is a very successful company that produces tons of media content every year, including movies, series, talk and stand-up shows, and so on, others would say that it lacks creativity and talent and most of its products are of mediocre quality and targeted at unsophisticated teenage audience.
There's indeed plenty of content under the Netflix label, but quantity doesn't necessarily mean quality. Nonetheless, it is easier to find a better product when there's many. This might just be the case with the upcoming series Florida Man.
The gist of the plot takes only one sentence.
Mark Valentine, the main character and a former policeman, takes a trip to his home state of Florida to find a Philadelphia thug's missing girlfriend but gets in the undertow of family secrets and struggles to keep his righteousness.
The trailer, however, reveals more epic a picture and leaves you agog about the upcoming series.
"What foresight! now we finally know all those headlines starting with '"A florida man was....''' were all promotional materials by Netflix leading up to this show," humorously wrote Uncle Recapsin a YouTube comment under the trailer.
Out of sheer caution, we should hold the horses with making our judgement about Florida Man. Everybody knows better than to count the chickens before they're hatched.
So we won't before watching the series, scheduled to be released on April, 13th. After all, trailers may be misleading from time to time, and while the plot seems to be quite average, Florida Man may be just another Netflix show.
As of now, we are left to hope that execution will surpass the idea.
Anyway, if Florida Man is any good, it will be one of the few by Netflix and a sign that the company's decided to put more effort into writing and creating its product in pursuit of a wider audience.
At the same time, Netflix fans are very optimistic about the upcoming series and express overwhelming desire to watch it as soon as it's released. Most of them seem to be very humorous about the show.
"I hope it's at least half as crazy and absurd as what we read in the headlines." wrote YouTuber Dark Sarcasm.
Indeed, optimism and humor are what everybody needs these days. Florida Man premieres on Netflix on April 13.
