The Tony Stark legacy continues... or does it?

The new trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has given Marvel fans an opportunity to check out Riri Williams a.k.a. Ironheart in action for the first time. Despite it being a couple of seconds, people seem to have already formed their first opinions of the character, and they are surprisingly various.

Some people are genuinely excited for the Iron Man legacy to continue. Judging by the trailer, Riri seems to be quite adventurous and audacious — something we all loved Tony Stark for. At the same time, she is clearly a different person, with her suit of armor also looking nothing like what we were used to back in the times of Tony's Iron Man.

However, others argued that the excitement for new characters is just not the same as it used to be, saying that it's pretty possible people are just not going to care all that much about Iron Man's replacement.

Besides, some fans believe that Iron Man's legacy is carried by characters from his inner circle such as Rhodey a.k.a. War Machine, Peter Parker, and his daughter Morgan. Many would have clearly preferred someone else to be representing Team Iron Man in the future of the MCU.

"Yeah Iron Heart is a poser from what I've seen, literally would be better to see Rhodes since he's old enough/was Iron Man's best friend and since Morgan isn't old I think, Rhodes would be the best fit since it would be fitting seeing cap gave his shield to his best friend." – @KitchenGun

There is also a group of people still rooting for "that kid from Iron Man 3" to become the new armored superhero. The last time we saw that kid, whose name is Harley Keener, was in Avengers: Endgame, when he attended Stark's funeral as an adult.

It is still worth noting that Marvel has not touted Riri Williams as "the new Ironman" of the MCU, given that her superhero name is different and she only seems to take inspiration from Tony's works.

In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Riri is portrayed by Dominique Thorne. Her role in the story remains to be fully disclosed, with earlier reports suggesting that one of her inventions is going to be directly involved in a new Wakanda war.

The second installment of the Black Panther franchise will be the final movie of Phase Four, with the identity of the new Black Panther still remaining a secret after the death of Chadwick Boseman, the actor who portrayed King T'Challa in the previous movies. Many fans believe that T'Challa's sister Shuri will end up being the person in the suit — which was also revealed in the final seconds of the new trailer.

Wakanda Forever is set to hit theaters on November 11, 2022.
