First Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Reviews Confirm What Fans Feared All Along
Turns out a modernized version of the well-known franchise isn’t that impressive — for both viewers and critics.
Summary:
- Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is about to be released in theaters, but the first viewers are already not that ecstatic about it.
- World of Reel’s Jordan Ruimy admits he found the movie so disappointing that he wouldn’t even like to review it.
- There are several things that may actually save Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire from total collapse, but it’s the box office that will prove it eventually.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, a sequel to 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, had a pretty rough start despite creators’ high expectations. The film will hit cinemas on March 22 and is expected to get at least $45 million during the first weekend, but those who already got the chance to see it wouldn’t be that self-assertive.
One of the first “lucky ones” like this was Jordan Ruimy who runs his own cinema-related website called World of Reel. According to him, the movie is so bad he wouldn’t even review it in a classic way as numbers speak volumes — Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire kicked it off with 43% on Rotten Tomatoes and 47 on Metacritic, which probably raises concerns whether it’s high time to leave the famous comedy franchise alone.
Yet still the film has some scarce chances from those who liked Ghostbusters: Afterlife as the sequel is set for the previews tonight — but even this will barely save the movie from very possible catastrophic collapse in the box office and fans’ eyes.
Even Bill Murray himself and the whole star-packed cast with Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, Sigourney Weaver and Kumail Nanjiani couldn’t make it better, so, as Ruimy highlights, there’s only a sense of desperation that stays with the viewer as a film aftertaste.
There are several seemingly strong points of the new film which can still play some role in the overall opinion — like, for example, the fact that the plot will take the viewers back to New York City where it all started, so the fans that followed the franchise since its first movie may get some cozy nostalgia feeling.
On top of that, the film reunites the initial and the new teams for fighting against the ghosts together — probably, viewers can also expect some never-seen-before development in the characters’ relationships.
Despite the first unfavorable reviews, the film still has plenty of time to prove itself — and this time will show whether there will be some more positive shift for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire or not.
