Filming This Erotic Scene In Woody Allen Movie Left Scarlett Johansson Bruised And Miserable
Sometimes love scenes can be more painful than fight scenes.
Woody Allen and Scarlett Johansson met in 2004 while casting for the movie Match Point.
At the first meeting, Scarlett impressed Woody with her bright appearance and versatility in acting. Later, both the actress and the director repeatedly noted the coincidence of interests and approaches to life.
After Match Point, for which Scarlett Johansson received an Oscar nomination, Woody Allen wrote two more roles for the actress in his next films – Scoop and Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
To this day, their friendship is nourished by a deep mutual respect and admiration, which they do not hide in interviews and personal communications.
However, the actress admitted that her first movie with Woody Allen made her suffer.
The movie has an erotic scene between Johansson's and Jonathan Rhys Meyers' characters that was filmed in the pouring rain. The actor also accidentally bit Scarlett's lip too hard.
"I'd have to say the only nice thing about it was Jonathan's warm and sweet embrace. First of all, I was in this very conveniently thin shirt, and it was pouring rain, and it's that kind of movie rain where it pelts you with this freezing cold water. And I have a slight weed allergy, and it was just miserable. […] He really bit my lip actually," the actress said in her interview with Movieweb.
Jonathan's inaccurate actions left a noticeable bruise on her face. However, the actress admitted that the actor was quick to make amends by sending her flowers, which she definitely deserved.
Scarlett Johansson was one of the few actors to stand up for Allen after one of the high-profile scandals, when the director's adopted daughter accused him of sexual harassment.
Woody Allen had become a Hollywood pariah, as many actors have publicly declared their refusal to work with him.
Among them was Scarlett Johansson's co-star Rebecca Hall, who also starred in Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
The actress said she regretted doing the film and planned to donate her entire fee to the Time's Up fund for victims of sexual abuse.
Woody Allen, commenting on the allegations, argued that he was completely innocent. Based on the scandal, HBO released a documentary in 2021 called Allen vs. Farrow.
