SpongeBob has had his time to shine in a couple of TV series and three movies so far, Patrick has gotten his fifteen minutes of fame on his show, but what about the rest of the characters?

It turns out that feminism has finally reached the depths of the ocean, and Sandy's movie is finally coming.

Netflix has just announced a new installment in the SpongeBob SquarePants franchise on its Instagram account. We even know the title already – Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie.

The animated movie is set to come out on the platform in 2024, and it will revolve around our favorite feisty squirrel Sandy.

The plot will follow her and her bestie SpongeBob as they are trying to save Bikini Bottom yet again. Why, you ask?

Apparently, someone has scooped all the residents out of the ocean.

Following the catastrophe, Sandy and SpongeBob must travel to Texas, Cheeks' homeland, to stop the mysterious villains and put everything back to normal. Here is the action movie we all deserve!

Carolyn Lawrence, Tom Kenny, Bill Fagerbakke, Rodger Bumpass, and Mr. Lawrence will return as Sandy Cheeks, SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Star, Squidward Tentacles, Plankton, and Mr. Krabs respectively.

Wanda Sykes, Johnny Knoxville, Craig Robinson, Grey DeLisle, Ilia Isorelys Paulino, and Matty Cardarople will also join the cast in undisclosed roles.

The movie has been in the works for three years already, and hopefully, it will see the light of day next year. It's a shame we don't know the release date yet.

Sandy has been a beloved character since her first appearance in the 1999's episode, Tea at the Treedome, and we truly can't wait to find out more about her background and to see a few of her solo adventures.

Who knows, perhaps the movie will become a franchise and even spawn another spinoff series… We are getting ahead of ourselves, but only because we are that excited for Sandy!

Now all we need is a Squidward-centric movie, and we will be fully content. This grumpy grump must have an interesting backstory, and we would love to learn more about it!
