There are days when all you want to do is escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and believe once again that miracles still exist. Pour a cup of tea, wrap yourself in a blanket, and get ready to dive into a world of light and heartfelt stories that will put you in a good mood.

1. The Holdovers, 2023

The list begins, of course, with what is undoubtedly the most heartwarming movie of 2023. 1970, the end of another semester at the boys ' academy. The students go home to their parents for the winter holidays. But senior Angus has to stay: his mother has decided to spend Christmas with her new husband.

Paul Hunham, a strict history teacher who is despised by both students and colleagues for his bad character, must watch over the abandoned student. A cook named Mary Lamb also stayed with him, mourning her son who died in Vietnam.

The director reminds us of the magical power of human intimacy, of the support that can come from the most unexpected places, and this is sure to make your soul feel a little warmer.

2. About a Boy, 2002

Will is in his 30s, living off the interest from his father's song, unmarried and responsible for no one. Instead of going on dates, he attends single parent meetings where he poses as a father who has a son. There he meets 12-year-old Marcus, who makes it his goal to marry his mother and his new friend.

Nominated for an Oscar for its screenplay, About a Boy is a romantic comedy that even those who hate the genre will enjoy.

3. The Farewell, 2019

A Chinese family in New York, mom, dad, and Billi, learns that their beloved grandmother back home is dying of stage four cancer. For what may be their last meeting, they organize a wedding so the whole family can come without arousing suspicion. Billi understands that this is all wrong, but flies back home to say her last goodbye.

Without unnecessary drama, emotionally but not at all sentimental, the characters talk about grief, regret and compassion, laugh at stupid jokes at the cemetery and worry about their grandmother's health.

4. Away We Go, 2009

Burt and Verona learn they are expecting a child. The parents-to-be hit the road to find the perfect place to raise their baby. They will visit their parents and a dozen of their friends, traveling hundreds of miles before they realize that the best place for them is where love is.

Away We Go is the rare example of a movie that warms the soul, and puts thoughts in order. Without excessive sweetness, but with an inexplicable magical atmosphere of warmth between two people, this movie leaves the most pleasant impressions after watching it.

5. Yesterday, 2019

Musician Jack has been performing in provincial pubs for years, but without much success. Only his girlfriend and part-time manager Ellie believes in his music. One day, he is hit by a bus and wakes up to find that everyone around him has forgotten about the Beatles. He decides to take advantage of this by passing off their songs as his own.

The script was written by Richard Curtis, the creator of Notting Hill and Love Actually, and was directed by Trainspotting director Danny Boyle. The collaboration of such different authors resulted in a light, bright and slightly naive movie with wonderful Beatles songs that you will be humming long after the credits roll.

6. Flipped, 2010

Young Bryce moves into a new house with his family. His neighbor Juli immediately falls in love with him, but he doesn't take her seriously. After a few years, however, Bryce suddenly realizes that Juli, whom he has been trying to get rid of for so long, is the woman he has always been looking for.

This touching movie about first love will appeal to fans of unusual approaches to storytelling. The story is told mainly from Juli’s point of view, sometimes from Bryce's, so that the viewer can observe a situation from both sides.

7. Mrs. Doubtfire, 1993

After his divorce, Daniel misses his children, who are left with their mother – he can see them no more than once a week. Then Daniel comes up with a way out – he dresses up as the charming retiree Mrs. Doubtfire and gets a job as a nanny for his ex-wife.

Chris Columbus' family comedy is good on its own, but what makes it truly cult is Robin Williams' incredible performance. The actor took full advantage of the creative freedom given to him, constantly improvising.

8. The Intern, 2015

Ben Whittaker is bored with his retirement. To get rid of the feeling that life is passing him by, he decides to take a job at an online fashion store, where he becomes the personal assistant to the company's founder, Jules Ostin.

And although Whittaker knows little about online retailing, his life experience and wisdom come in handy for Jules and her colleagues.

Written and directed by Nancy Meyers, the film will appeal to all generations – it will convince older viewers that there is a life after retirement, and will captivate younger viewers with its combination of sincerity and witty humor.

9. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, 2013

For some reason, one of the most important shots is missing from the package he received, and Mitty sets out to find it. A dangerous journey through Iceland and other amazingly beautiful countries awaits him.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is simply a very warm movie that everyone who has lost faith in miracles should see.

10. Moonrise Kingdom, 2012

There is an accident at the Boy Scouts' summer camp: a boy named Sam has disappeared. At the same time, on the other side of the island, the Bishop family is also stressed: a girl named Suzy has disappeared, too.

In fact, the two have been in love for a long time and have even managed to plan an escape to be alone, away from adults. While their terrified parents, the local sheriff and the camp counselor search for them, they enjoy their freedom to the fullest.

Wes Anderson's soulful work is about the kind of love that only children, who in this case behave even more maturely than adults, are capable of.
