The fifth season of Fargo TV series is slowly approaching its conclusion with only three episodes left, so now it is absolutely clear that it is a great addition to the series on par with the previous seasons.

The most refreshing part of season 5 is definitely its protagonist, Dot Lyon, portrayed by Juno Temple, as she is quite different from the main characters of the previous seasons in many ways and brings a new flavor to the story.

However, every good protagonist needs a good antagonist, and Dot's sinister ex-husband Roy Tillman, played by Jon Hamm, is equally brilliant and steals every scene he is in.

Roy Tillman Proved To Be A Great Addition To Fargo

The actor nails the despicable nature of the character perfectly, as Roy is incredibly delusional and repulsive, certain that he is absolutely right with his barbaric and outdated views on life and the place of women in society.

Aside from Roy's introduction, where he lectures an abusive husband and explains how he thinks a woman should behave in a marriage, the scene that best sums up the character is when he is confronted by two FBI agents while relaxing in a hot tub.

But fans were quite surprised to see that despite his extremely "traditionalist" beliefs, he actually has both of his nipples pierced, which immediately caught the eyes of viewers.

In a recent interview with Collider, Jon Hamm explained how this little detail, along with several others present in the scene, should tell you everything you need to know about the character.

Every Single Detail In The Hot Tub Scene Actually Matters

The actor revealed that he and the show's creators quickly agreed that Roy would have nipple piercings, though that didn't make the process of having his nipples covered in latex and applying prosthetics any less uncomfortable for Hamm.

The fact that Roy is able to sit naked in a hot tub with his nipple rings out without a shadow of discomfort, smoking a cigar in front of total strangers who have come to question him, shows that he is "beholden to no one on this earth" and enjoys the comfort of life, which is a powerful position to be in, the actor said.

Seeing him leave the conversation covered in a towel with his own face printed on it was just the icing on the cake.

Jon also explained that he didn't want Roy to be a clichéd villain, so while it was largely up to the writers to make the villain convincing, he also had to immerse himself in "the land and the prairie," which helped a lot in understanding the character.

As mentioned above, the actor certainly seems to have succeeded, as Roy has proven to be not only a great addition to the lineup of villains that have appeared throughout the Fargo TV series, but also another great role in Jon Hamm's career.

Fans are eager to see what fate will befall Roy, as after so much build-up, the final confrontation between him and the ex-wife whose life he turned into a living hell should be absolutely spectacular.
