Fans Think Joker 2 Will Bring Willem Dafoe's Genius Idea to Life (But Without Dafoe)
Are fans about to get two Jokers to share one big screen?
Ever since Willem Dafoe mentioned this idea to bring another Joker in the form of an imposter to a Joker movie sequel, fans went entirely on board with it.
Well, what could be better than Joker being portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix? Only Joker portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix and Willem Dafoe on the same screen.
"That kind of opens up the possibility of an interesting story, particularly if you had Joaquin Phoenix's Joker, and then you had someone who was either imitating or riffing off what he did," Dafoe shared with GQ back in 2022.
At the time of the interview where the idea was first released, there was no indication of Joker 2 being in those stages of production already, so the idea never was considered to be anything but a fun fan theory.
As of today, when the sequel is actually being filmed, and fans are getting the first pictures from the shooting process, no one really expected the theory to come true. However, it did… partly.
In a photo, you can clearly see two Joker figures, one being Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, with distressed clown makeup and a gray suit.
Another Joker seems to be dressed in his staple costume with bright green hair and perfectly put-together makeup.
Who the actor behind the other figure is impossible to tell, but, unfortunately for fans, the person just doesn't look like Dafoe at all.
The context of a scene is unknown as well, so this might as well be a nod to the ending of the first movie with streets in chaos celebrating Joker and copying his appearance in support.
The sequel to the Joker movie, Joker: Folie à Deux, was announced by Todd Phillips and is set to be released in October 2024. It is reported to be a musical, which caught the fans by surprise.
Lady Gaga would star alongside Joaquin Phoenix, taking the role of Harley Quinn.
