Fans Still Can’t Get Over These 3 Chicago Fire Characters’ Unfairly Tragic Exits
They deserved a much better farewell.
Chicago Fire is one of the most popular shows on NBC and it has been since its premiere in 2012. For 12 years now, the show has kept viewers on the edge of their seats, waiting for the next twist and turn that the iconic procedural drama has to offer.
Now in its season 12, the show is going through many changes both in storylines and in characters as well. A lot of recurring cast members left the show recently, but it wasn't their departure that made fans gasp.
Although the deaths of these three characters happened many years ago, fans still lose sleep over the way they were killed off. The fandom is sure that they all deserved a better send-off.
Leslie Shay
Leslie was an important character in the series, although she only stayed there until the start of season 3. She was a paramedic who was an essential part of the story, especially because of her close relationship with fans’ beloved Kelly Severide. And this fact makes her unfair and tragic departure even worse because of the way the writers handle the storylines later.
She died in an explosion that happened at the end of season 2, and it was a massive shock for the viewers. She never managed to say a proper goodbye to those she loved, and her place was taken by another character, none other than Sylvie Brett, in the very same episode, not giving Severide a chance to grieve properly after losing a close friend.
Jessica "Chili" Chilton
What fans hate most about this character's departure is that they feel she was not given a proper chance to leave the show gracefully. Chili had some pretty powerful storylines in Chicago Fire that made her a character the audience cared about deeply.
It was painful to see all her struggles with alcoholism and how she failed every time, mostly because she had literally no support. Only on her way out did she find encouragement in Severide, who helped her get into rehab. But when she needed a friend and turned to Bodem for help, she lost her job instead.
Jimmy Borrelli
One of the most unfairly killed off characters is definitely Jimmy. When he was first introduced in season 4, viewers saw him as a person who was not interested in anything, mainly because of being in aftershock from his brother’s death in the series. Still, after some time, he became worthy of being a firefighter.
Unfortunately, in season 5, he gets into a massive car accident that leaves him with many injuries and without an eye. Immediately after, the writers write him off the show instead of giving the character some rehabilitation time and proper closure. Fans feel this was the laziest way to say goodbye to a character who had so much potential.
