Fans Outraged Over Queen Charlotte Disturbing Sex Scenes
What was meant to be sweet and romantic turned out to be the reason the show almost got canceled on the Internet.
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story premiered on Netflix just a few days ago, on May 4, and is already creating a buzz among fans who have managed to binge-watch the entire season.
While most of the viewers say that the new show is almost the best thing they have seen among the series of the franchise, the rest are already pointing out the details of the plot that made them disgusted.
The viewers witness the blossoming love life between the 17-year old Queen Charlotte and twenty-something King George.
And it seems that the writers' emphasis on Charlotte's age was a big mistake.
Many fans felt uncomfortable with actually seeing her so eager to consummate her marriage, but not even understanding what "marital duty" is, although still demanding it from her husband.
Their first sex scene itself caused a huge debate on Reddit.
Half of the audience thought it was romantic and natural, adding that girls that age have sex now, and in fact in the era of the show were married at exactly the same age as Charlotte, but they were immediately accused of "normalizing underage sex."
And the rest of the fans were just really offended that the idea was even considered okay.
"If they want the adult audience to find the sex scenes sexy and entertaining, maybe don't remind us that one of the characters is still considered underage today.
They could have just kept things the same and not been like 'here's a 17 year old character having a graphic sex scene, ain't that sexy!'… like no, to me it's not entertaining," Redditor Sparkle_Markle said.
Well, the never-ending debate about what's right and wrong in a fictional series that happens to be based on historical events is pretty old news. At least all the actors are consenting adults…
