The show’s finale caused a big controversy that still has some of its lovers worried.

It’s been several weeks since Young Sheldon ’s seven-season TV run came to its end, but its finale’s biggest mystery seems to be settled by fans only now. Having initially come as The Big Bang Theory ’s prequel, Young Sheldon concluded its story by featuring Sheldon Cooper’s original actor Jim Parsons giving some subtle updates about how the things were going for his friends from the flagship series.

Though one specific detail came as a sinister omen regarding one of the leading characters’ fate, now fans are reassured that something like this has very little chance to happen due to its mere uselessness for the franchise.

In Young Sheldon’s finale, the character’s adult version is seen discussing his family matters with wife Amy Farah Fowler who mentions that Sheldon is about to skip their son Leonard’s hockey game.

Some of The Big Bang Theory’s long-standing fans saw this as some kind of heartbreaking confirmation that naming his son after Leonard was Sheldon’s tribute to the best friend who was dead by the time Young Sheldon finds the original character. Such a turn of events became even more plausible after someone else pointed out Leonard's health problems featured in the original show.

Though this theory has been all over the media in the recent weeks, many fans seem to have quite solid reasons to entirely disprove it. In a Reddit thread dedicated to everyone’s discussion of whether Leonard was in fact dead or not, many users appeared to be quite skeptical regarding the viral theory.

A comment that got most of the upvotes mentions that there’s no real purpose for killing Leonard off as The Big Bang Theory’s universe surely has no plans for another spinoff that will revolve around Leonard and his wife Penny’s story, adding that “the only thing it would do if this was a deliberate choice is distract from George's death, which isn't what YS viewers or showrunners want.”

Others also stated that ever since the original show’s first seasons it’d been clear that Sheldon had always been a huge fan of Leonard Nimoy, the actor that rose to wide prominence after portraying Spock in the original Star Trek series, and would’ve most likely named his son after Nimoy rather than after his friend Leonard.

Though no chance for Leonard’s spinoff may still come as something pretty disheartening for the original show’s fans, such an option still seems to be a better choice compared to another one that considers the beloved character’s death pretty much possible.
