It’s not talent that they’re lacking.

Summary:

One issue that the entertainment industry continues to successfully push forward is equality and inclusivity. Many celebrities, as well as the crew members behind the cameras who work to produce fan-favorite movies and TV shows, face discrimination based on their gender, race, or sexuality.

While the atmosphere has changed over the past few decades thanks to all kinds of activists and movements, there are still issues that need to be discussed. And while audiences aren't usually the ones who drive change, these days, with the power of social media, anyone can push the issue they see fit.

Among the many voices shaming actresses for their looks, behavior, or stories of being victims of men in power, there are also some passionate supporters of the cause. And sometimes, people who believe in equality have an equally strong voice.

But it's not every day you see that voice used against someone as successful as Christopher Nolan.

Christopher Nolan Female Leads Issue

Like many other Christopher Nolan films before it, Oppenheimer featured a very strong male cast with only two female characters. While Florence Pugh and Emily Blunt had to work with the roles they were given, The Interned sparked a discussion about female leads (or lack thereof) in Nolan's films.

The actresses who do appear in Nolan's films are often criticized for their performances. This was the case with Pugh in Oppenheimer and Elizabeth Debicki in Tenet. While both seem to be beloved by the film community, it was in Nolan's films that something went wrong.

X (formerly known as Twitter) user soapyhadid seems to have found the cause of all the problems. And judging by the traction the post is now getting online, many people seem to agree that the lack of screen time is the case.

“Actresses overact in Christopher Nolan movies cause they know they have like 13 mins,” the user said.

While the post is obviously written in jest, there is a sad reality to it. Even Oppenheimer's Emily Blunt, who went through all the promotional events and was considered an important character, ended up with a little more than 16 minutes of screen time in total.

Now all Christopher Nolan has to do is come up with a movie with an all-female cast. And we would certainly be interested to see that. Until then, you can stream Oppenheimer on Amazon Prime Video or Apple TV Plus.
