Unlike with New Vegas, Prime Video’s TV show gives a definitive answer to what the canon ending of Fallout 4 is, but it’s more complicated than just seeing the Prydwen.

Summary:

  • In Fallout the TV show, we see the Prydwen arriving to the West Coast, meaning that the Boston Brotherhood survived the events of Fallout 4.
  • However, in the series, the Brotherhood doesn’t have synths, and in Episode 7, the KPSS radio broadcasts the Minutemen radio.
  • Combined, these facts cement the Minutemen ending without conflict with the Brotherhood of Steel as the only canon ending of Fallout 4.

Fallout 4 has a handful of possible endings, but Prime Video ’s new TV show makes only one of them possible — and since Todd Howard claimed the show was canon, it effectively means that we know just how the events in the Commonwealth unfolded. If you think it’s all about the Prydwen, though, you’re greatly mistaken: there’s a lot more going on there, and “the Brotherhood won” is not the correct answer.

The Prydwen Suggests the Brotherhood Won

While many articles argued that the Brotherhood of Steel airship in the Fallout TV show wasn’t the Prydwen, that claim has since been debunked. The one-of-a-kind technological wonder officially remains one-of-a-kind, so its arrival to the West Coast suggests that the Brotherhood of Steel certainly didn’t lose the fight with the Institute.

But that leaves us with two potential canon endings.

The Brotherhood of Steel ending is the obvious pick here, but there’s also the Minutemen ending where the player doesn’t confront the Brotherhood at all. It also results in the Brotherhood’s — and the Prydwen’s — survival. Fortunately, we have more to go off here, and some sneaky hints explain which ending is the canon.

Fallout 4 Canon Ending Seemingly Confirmed

Knight Titus’ Boston accent paired with the Prydwen’s relocation to the West Coast guarantees that the Institute is no more. But if the Brotherhood destroyed the Institute, they would have brought its tech with them, and there were no mentions of synths in Prime Video’s TV show. Which leads us to believe that the Minutemen had destroyed the Institute before the Brotherhood managed to get to them.

This implies that the Minutemen became the dominant force in the Commonwealth, capable of broadcasting their propaganda via radio to new areas. That’s where things get interesting, because in Fallout Episode 7, the KPSS radio that plays classical music is identified as the Minutemen Radio by Amazon X-Ray — and we must remind you that the Commonwealth is on the East Coast.

The only outcome that simultaneously allows for the Prydwen’s survival, the synth technology being destroyed, and the Minutemen Radio being broadcast on the West Coast is the Minutemen ending without conflict with the Brotherhood of Steel. Hence, it’s the one and only canon ending of Fallout 4, to many BoS fans dismay.
