Expect Even More Supernatural Cameos In The Upcoming Winchesters Episodes
According to the showrunner, the Winchester Season 1 finale will be jam-packed with guest stars.
The Winchesters, which premiered in October 2022, has been entertaining Supernatural 's massive fan base with its nostalgic and action-packed debut season. Fans were beyond excited to see Jensen Ackles 's cameo in Episode 9 following the mid-season hiatus.
Dean Winchester's surprise appearance in an old photo sparked fan theories saying that the beloved character may have survived the Supernatural finale.
Another big nod to the original series was of course the appearance of Samuel Campbell, grandfather of Sam and Dean Winchester, played by Tom Welling. It is moments like these that make watching a spin-off so special. And The Winchesters will not let its fans down.
These two cameos are just some of the Supernatural callbacks the prequel is crammed full of. And according to showrunner Robbie Thompson, more Easter eggs and legacy characters can be expected this season.
The showrunner told SyFy that the creators took the Easter Egg and cameo business very seriously. They didn't want to include any references and characters from the Supernatural impressive mythology just for fun.
"If we do bring in that character, what is the story?" Thompson recalled the creative team asking themselves every time a cameo was discussed.
It was important to them not to ruin any of the Supernatural plotlines with new stories. What was finished had to stay in the past.
"It's not like they're Pokemon and we've got to collect all of them," the showrunner said laughing.
Thompson also revealed that he personally called each of the actors, who had played beloved Supernatural characters that The Winchesters creators hoped to revive, and asked them for their take on the story of their character. Considering the amount of time each actor has spent with their respective character, their input could prove to be invaluable.
Even with this strict selection, many canon characters made it into the plot of Season 1, according to the showrunner. He teased that an exciting Supernatural character will appear in Episode 12, and fans can expect even more mind-blowing cameos in the finale.
"We're bringing back some really, really cool and exciting characters in our Season 1 finale that fans will instantly recognize, and I'm hoping that we can announce that sooner rather than later because I'm not a fan of holding on to stuff," Thompson added.
The fans will surely agree with the showrunner. With the finale airing no earlier than the last day of February, the wait is sure to feel like torture.
