Despite the movie’s creepy storyline, Baby Reindeer seems to be even more terrifying due to its specific aspects.

Netflix’s current immense hit, Baby Reindeer has been ruling over the whole streaming for around two weeks now — and its popularity doesn’t have any risks of decreasing anytime soon.

With the creepy plot based on a true and very terrifying story, the show seems to be some kind of loose modern version of Stephen King’s 1990 thriller Misery, but the former actually has all the reasons to be even more thrilling than the King of Horror’s story.

Created by Scottish writer Richard Gadd, Baby Reindeer follows stranded author Donny who gets a job as a bartender while he needs to have his writing struggles sorted out. One evening Donny can’t help noticing a seemingly upset woman sitting at the bar stand and offers her a complimentary tea, but such a kind harmless gesture is perceived by her in a very weird way.

Soon enough Martha becomes a frequent guest at the bar simultaneously sending Danny hundreds of daily emails. The latter’s agreement to go on a date with Martha to finally debunk all her delusions makes the whole situation even worse forcing the woman to go further with harassing and stalking Danny’s family.

Baby Reindeer’s plot may indeed sound like something very familiar to Stephen King’s fans — back in the 1990, a psychological thriller Misery based on King’s novel told viewers a very similar story.

Did Stephen King Do Baby Reindeer Before Baby Reindeer?

The plot revolves around successful writer Paul who feels to be stuck with his famous character Misery Chastain so much that he eventually decides to kill her and then move on to writing some more serious novels. Right after he finishes his final manuscript about Misery, Paul gets into a car crash and is saved by nurse Annie Wilkes who brings him to her remote home.

Things turn out to be a torture disguised as a blessing for Paul who finds out that Annie is his number one fan — and she would do anything to bring Misery back to life on the writer’s pages.

Despite both stories being almost equally horrifying at first, Baby Reindeer owns some specific details that make it even worse than King’s kidnap-coded movie. Apart from the very fact that Baby Reindeer is based on its creator’s real-life story, the main character doesn’t appear to have a single way to escape his stalker’s creepy actions.

While Misery’s Annie traps Paul in her house from where he possibly could run away, Baby Reindeer’s Donny has no possibility to run away from his entire life that gets under Martha’s close control in almost all matters.
