The actor acknowledged the shortcomings of Thor: Love and Thunder and shared his feelings about the criticism of MCU movies.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is rather inconsistent in quality, with some installments being absolute masterpieces, some being okay but unremarkable, and others being complete messes.

And the Thor movies can serve as a great visual representation of this, with the first being a pretty good movie, albeit without any surprises, and the second being pretty boring (though it does have a few great scenes).

After the underwhelming reception of the sequel, something had to be done, and Taika Waititi came to the rescue, directing Thor: Ragnarok, which was hailed as not only the best Thor movie, but a great addition to the MCU in general.

However, some admitted that the director's signature humor was overused at times, undermining the dramatic elements of the film, and unfortunately, things only got worse with the fourth installment.

While Thor: Love and Thunder wasn't outright terrible, many fans agree that there was too much comedy that didn't match the seriousness of the film, such as Jane dying of cancer, child abductions, and the tragic villain Gorr the God Butcher.

And it seems that even Chris Hemsworth, Thor himself, admits as much, confessing in a recent interview with GQ that apparently they "just had too much fun", so "it just became too silly."

It turns out that even his own children criticized the movie for its visual effects and humor, as they "cringed and laughed equally at it."

He also shared that it's "super depressing" for him to hear the criticism of Marvel movies from legends like Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino, with the former criticizing superhero movies in general and the latter recently stating that it's not the actors but the characters who are the real stars.

Fans agree that Love and Thunder definitely crossed the line in terms of humor, as the jokes felt out of place and didn't land as well as they did in the third film, detracting from the overall narrative of love and loss.

They also say that the fact that Hemsworth acknowledges the film's shortcomings gives them a little more hope for the next Thor movie.

It is unknown when Chris will reprise his role within the MCU, but he will soon appear on the big screen in Extraction 2, which will be released on June 16, 2023.
